How to Spot Rogue Sellers on Amazon (and What to Do About Them)
With EcomTactics
A Simple Guide for Protecting Your Brand
Selling your products on Amazon can be great for your business—but it can also come with problems. One of the biggest problems we see? Rogue sellers. These are sellers who aren’t supposed to sell your product but do it anyway. They can lower your prices, hurt your brand, confuse customers, and take away your profits.
At EcomTactics, we help business owners find these sellers and take back control. Here’s how it works.
🚨 The Problem: When Sellers Break the Rules
One brand we worked with had their medical product being sold on Amazon by sellers they didn’t know. These sellers were offering the product at really low prices—lower than what the brand allowed.
We found out that some international distributors, who were only supposed to sell outside the U.S., were shipping the product back into the U.S. and reselling it on Amazon. Since they got special pricing, they could beat U.S. sellers on price. This caused big U.S. buyers to stop buying from trusted sellers and start buying from these rogue ones instead.
In short, the brand was competing with itself—and losing.
🔍 Signs You Might Have Rogue Sellers
Here’s how to know if you might have a rogue seller problem:
• Your product is being sold way below the price you want
• Some sellers on Amazon look unfamiliar or sketchy
• Customers complain about odd packaging or branding
• You see listings you didn’t create
• Your international distributors are buying more than usual
🕵️ How We Find Rogue Sellers
Sometimes we do a little detective work.
One brand we helped had lot numbers (special product codes) on their packaging. We ordered the product from Amazon and looked at those numbers. This helped us find out which international distributor was sending that product back into the U.S.
We also used the distributor lists from the brand to match seller names, addresses, and phone numbers to confirm who was breaking the rules.
✅ What You Should Do First
The first step is to not panic—and don’t go after sellers on your own.
At EcomTactics, we look at your specific situation and make a plan. Some sellers might be breaking MAP pricing rules. Others might be violating distribution contracts. Every case is different, so it’s important to have a smart strategy.
